The Residential Clean Energy Credit

One way RV owners are unlocking and harnessing solar power is by adding RV solar or solar power to their RV. In addition to increasing your quality of life, adding solar to your RV can put money back in your wallet through the Residential Clean Energy Credit.

The Residential Clean Energy Credit offers up to 30% of the costs associated with a complete solar package. Unlike a tax deduction, a tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the income tax you would pay.

How to Qualify for the Residential Clean Energy Credit?

Any "dwelling unit" qualifies for the Residential Clean Energy Credit, which includes certain RVs. To qualify, your RV has to be lived in at least 14 days a year. In addition, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. Claim the solar tax credit by ensuring your solar equipment is installed between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2034.
  2. The equipment should be either new or used for the first time, specifically installed for the initial time on your RV to be eligible for the credit.
  3. The solar system must be acquired through cash or financing, but leased equipment doesn't qualify.
  4. The location of the solar equipment must be a residence within the United States.
